Back In Action! Magogo Returns McKinstry To Take Uganda To World Cup…

Cranes coach, Jonathan McKinstry optimistic to return to work after a whole 4 weeks out of office

Jonathan McKinstry has resumed his duties as Uganda Cranes head coach after sitting out for a period of upto one month as asked by the local football governing body, Federation of Ugandan Football Association (FUFA).

FUFA president, Moses Magogo while announcing McKinstry’s suspension said that they wanted to assess and monitor the performance of the team without the Northern Irish.

Since McKinstry was “benched” 4 weeks back, Uganda has not registered any win as local coaches Abdallah Mubiru, Livingstone Mbabazi and Fred Kajoba were handed the team.

As McKinstry was away, Cranes senior player Khalid Aucho was suspended, the team drew 0-0 with Burkina Faso at Kitende and also lost by a goal to nil away in Malawi, burying Uganda’s chances of AFCON qualification.

Upon his return today, McKinstry had a busy day in office following up with Uganda Cranes players after their return to their clubs.

The Cranes head coach is optimistic and geared up for Uganda Cranes’ next challenge.

“Planning is already under way for the start of our FIFA World Cup campaign in June when we will kick off our journey to Qatar,” McKinstry announced upon his return.

Uganda will battle in group E with Mali, Kenya and Rwanda qualify for the first-ever World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Cranes will therefore play four derby games against East African Countries on their world cup qualification journey.

During the draws in Cairo, the Harambee Stars of Kenya and Amavubi Stars of Rwanda are the two East African teams drawn with the Cranes in Group E. West African giant Mali is the other nation in the group.

None of the four teams has ever qualified for the final World Cup in history.

Cranes Fans Not So Happy With McKinstry

Most Ugandan football fans have however pointed a sharp finger at the Northern Irish coach, and accused him of failing Uganda’s football progress.

McKinstry, weeks before his suspension came under fire for failing to go past the group stage of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Before that, he had coached Uganda to a 1-0 loss to South Sudan in Kenya last year, after another dismal performance against South Sudan in the double header of the same qualifying campaign saw Uganda lose ground in returning to Africa Cup of Nations for the third successive time, leaving Uganda on seven points and in the mix of fighting to seal qualification in the final two games in which Uganda eventually only managed 1 point to go crashing out of the AFCON qualifying campaign.

Justice Kisakye's misunderstanding with the Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo came in light during Kyagulanyi's presidential petition withdrawal against Museveni's reelection

Sources at the Kololo based Supreme Court have revealed  that two former Chief Justices have started mediating between eight Justices of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo and Justice Dr Esther Mayambala Kisakye.

Our sources stated that last month, Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe, the immediate former Chief Justice separately met Chief Justice Dollo at his chambers at the Supreme Court and they held a secret meeting which took almost three hours. Our sources intimated to us that two weeks later, another former Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki also met Justice Dollo, where after the two former Chief Justices met the eight Justices of the Supreme Court including Justice Robby Opio Aweri, Justice Mike Chibitta, Justice Stella Arach Amoko, Justice Faith Mwondah, Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi, Justice Percy Night Tuhaise, Justice Paul Mugamba, and the issue at hand was the misunderstanding between them and fellow Justice Kisakye.

It is not yet established whether the former Chief Justices also met Justice Kisakye. The misunderstanding came in light during the withdrawing of the presidential petition filed by National Unity Platform (NUP)’s former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine challenging president Yoweri Museveni’s victory.

Justice Kisakye accused Justice Dollo of confiscating her file containing her dissenting judgement after refusing him to vet her ruling. Judiciary’s Senior Communications officer Ssalongo Solomon Muyita rubbished Kisakye’s accusation stating that the problem was with her because she refused other justices on the penal from going through her ruling as the practice is, and or requires.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leadership has warned the selected party members and the new elected Members of Parliament to avoid involving themselves in acts of indiscipline including having sex and getting drunk on alcohol during the ongoing party retreat at Kyankwanzi National training Institute.

Speaking to the Grapevine, Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the NRM’s Director for Communication and Public Relations revealed that they have already started investigating the indiscipline exhibited by their members during their trip to Kyankwanzi on Thursday evening where party members got drunk and started abusing each other on the bus. Dombo described the incident as “absurd” and revealed that investigations are on into the matter, warning that culprits will be punished.

Sources in Kyankwanzi intimated to this website that there is a candidate vying for the office of the deputy speaker who bought expensive alcohol and wine, on it branded with her pictures asking them to vote for her.

Dombo also said that all members who are going to attend the meeting will not be allowed to access their mobile phones until evening.

He added that other members who are pregnant will not be allowed for exercising after classes and breast feeding mothers were not welcome because of the highly physical demands of the retreat.

There have always been ugly reports from the previous retreats at Kyankwanzi where reports of alcoholism, explicit sex and NRM big wigs fighting for beds.
