Dr. Kizza Besigye, the four-time presidential candidate and his People’s Front for Transformation (PFT), a political pressure group has declared war on the now unstoppable Muhoozi succession project.
Addressing PFT supporters today as keynote speaker, under the theme “Transition not Succession” at JEEMA offices in Mengo, Besigye revealed that the country is at a very critical moment and Ugandans must think deep on how to overcome this crisis.
“This country is divided into two countries, those who have been advised to eat cassava and those who are celebrating birthday parties because they captured power,” Besigye said.
He asked Ugandans to use the opportunity given to them by Muhoozi to declare his succession to his father as null and void and re-capture the power which was taken from them by president Museveni through amending the national constitution.
He explained that he is not challenging Muhoozi to replace his father but what he is challenging is the circumstances through which he wants to succeed him.
He revealed that when president Museveni discovered that nature had caught up with him and that he is going to lose power, he crowned Lt. Gen. Muhoozi as his successor as if Uganda is a family affair.
He narrated that Museveni has been trying to hide the fact that nature has caught up with him that’s why he is always making pressure ups and running inside State House until he discovered that nature cannot be defeated.
“You can laugh seeing him struggling to stand up from the chair, never joke with nature and we should use this opportunity to recapture our country,” Besigye said.
He insisted that when they captured power in 1986, the first thing they did was to issue Legal Notice No.1 to change the country’s constitution, to recognise NRA as a national army since when they were in the bush, they were called terrorists.
He added that after issuing Legal Notice No. 1, they agreed that after 10 years, they should return power to civilians because it was the reason why many of them left their well-paying jobs to go and fight a war which was very difficult.
He apologised to Ugandans saying he did not know that they were fighting for Museveni to establish his Kingdom and he now wants his son to forcefully succeed him in a shabby way because of the wealth his family has accumulated.
He claimed that Museveni intentionally impoverished Ugandans by weakening all lines which they were using to get money so that he can turn them into beggars.
He insisted that Museveni not only captured Ugandans but also government institutions to the extent that he now controls Courts, parliament, non governmental organisations, religious leaders and cultural leaders.
Besigye further revealed that Museveni has captured the national army and he is using it to crush those threatening his government and many military officers are living in captivity.
“For me I struggled for ten years to be retired from the army but my friends are still in captivity. My friend Gen. Sejusa cannot even leave his home and other ordinary military officers are suffering from there,” Besigye said.
He added that Museveni even captured all the opposition political parties and he is using them to influence the project for his son to succeed him.
I CANNOT SALUTE GEN MUHOOZI
Besigye warned that even though he retired from the army at the rank of the Col, he cannot salute Lt. Gen. Muhoozi bacause he is not his calliber in army professionalism.
“Even me who retired on the rank of Col, I am better than Muhoozi professionally and I cannot salute him,” Besigye said.
He said that in all his life, Gen. Muhoozi thinks that his father is everything and Ugandans are their savants that’s why he is disrespecting the army profession.
He predicted that if Muhoozi was not Museveni’s son, he would have been court martialed like him who just authored a private document and sent it to him privately pleading to him for a transition which they promised Ugandans when they were fighting in the bush.
However, he said that he does not blame Muhoozi for what he is doing because he doesn’t understand the other life since he has grown up in a State House which he thinks is his home.
He narrated that when they captured power, Muhoozi was in exile, when he returned, he went to Kampala parent’s school, a school for rich people and he never tested the real life a common Ugandan goes through that’s why he thinks that youths in Uganda are faced with sports and entertainment problems.
Besigye was supported by his deputy and also the Kampala City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago who branded Muhoozi the most reckless four-star general he has ever seen.
He warned Ugandans that if they allow Muhoozi to take power, Uganda will be like North Korea under president Kim Jong-un.
He insisted that other than being President Museveni’s son, and having knowledge on how to operate a gun, Muhoozi lacks credentials to run this country.
“This country is at a crossroads and what is going on is total madness. We are at the apex and instead of discussing fundamental issues we are fighting each other,” he said.
Lukwago added that people in the opposition are fighting for their political party leadership and who will stand for presidency in 2026 while president Museveni whom he branded as a warlord is shedding his skin to give power to his son.
He encouraged Ugandans to use article 3 of the Constitution which allows them to use everything possible to protect the country’s constitution.
