Highly placed sources in the MK Movement, a political pressure group established to mobilize support for the First Son who also doubles as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the next president has started developing serious cracks resulting from the ongoing fights for supremacy and money.
Insiders claim that the sharp fight is between the MK Army led by celebrated event promoter Balaam Bagaruhara Ateenyi and Team Chairman led by Gen. Muhoozi uncle Michael Nuwagira alias Toyota who are both fighting to catch their supreme leader’s eye.
Sources divulged that last week, the fight between the two camps reached boiling point when Balaam and other MK Movement supporters in Western Uganda organized a baraza at Bwizibwera in Kashari, Mbarara.
Balaam’s team invited various artistes to entertain the gathering but top on the list was Patrick Mulwana alias Alien Skin, Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool, Sister Charity and Raster Charz. They even placed them in adverts that were being played on radio stations in Mbarara.
To the surprise of the organizers of the function, only Sister Charity and Raster Charz attended to entertain the gathering.
Sources within MK Movement confirmed to theGrapevine that Team Chairman Camp compromised Alien Skin not to attend Balaam’s function and promised to double the money he was paid not to perform at the function.
“Alien Skin was given 15 million by Balaam’s team to perform. Surprisingly, the other faction doubled the money and gave him 30 million not to perform. When the money was sent to Alien Skin, he stopped in Masaka, switched off his phone and turned back to Kampala. He later returned Balaam’s 15 million,” an insider in MK Movement told theGrapevine.
Sources said that Skin first declined to take the offer but accepted it when the double offer was delivered to him.
Once he got the money, he stopped in Masaka and cut off all communication with people at Kashari.
Sources narrated that in Kashari, a section of angry MK Movement supporters, fueled by some wrong elements who were sent to cause chaos tried to turn their guns on Balaam and threatened to beat him after they participated in a football match between MK Movement supporters from Ankole and those from Tooro. They argued that they thought that they were supposed to win some gifts after the match. However, they were told that this was a mini tournament and what had just taken place was a semi-final.
They were further told that prizes will be given to the teams that will participate and win the finals.
Sources in Balaam’s camp accuse those in Toyata’s camp of sabotaging their grassroots political mobilization for Gen. Muhoozi by trying to cripple them financially.
Sources said that Balaam decided to use his personal money to proceed with the mobilization drive countrywide because he was spotted by Gen. Muhoozi himself who assigned him.
Source intimated to theGrapevine that Muhoozi was recently told that his name was being soiled by a section of members of his group who were soliciting money from the public.
This is the reason why Andrew Mwenda the MK Movement spokesperson issued a statement warning the public against giving people money under the guise of executing assignments from Gen. Muhoozi.
“We have received many reports of unscrupulous people moving around the country soliciting for money from the public pretending to do so on behalf of the MK Movement. This is to inform the general public that the MK Movement has not authorized anyone to fundraise for it,” Mwenda’s warning read.
Sources said that even though Balaam was not bothered by the allegations, a number of people in his camp are under investigation by the Movement disciplinary committee chaired by Michael Mawanda Maranga.
Sources in the Movement further told theGrapevine that there is an ongoing clandestine drive to convince Gen. Muhoozi to fire Mwenda who they accuse of supporting homosexuals to the extent that he was among the people who petitioned the Constitutional Court to declare the law passed by parliament and signed by President Museveni against homosexuals illegal.
The other cause of fights among MK Movement members is the scramble for beautiful curvy women.
From its inception, MK Movement has had a reputation of attracting some of the most beautiful, bummy girls.
This has led to fights among men on how the women should be shared. This has in turn fueled divisions and fights.
Other highly placed sources close to Gen. Muhoozi told theGrapevine that he knows everything that is going on within his camp and he has started the process of cleaning his house through a reshuffle that will shake the top leadership.
“He is waiting for his father’s cabinet reshuffle before he does the same because some of his prominent members might eat big in President Museveni’s cabinet.,” a source divulged.
Once he knows who has been appointed, he plans to replace them with more energetic and vibrant youth who will be able to counter Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s youth on all battle fronts.
However, when contacted, David Kabanda the MK Movement deputy spokesperson confirmed that he talked to Skin and he told him that he has returned the money he was paid to perform at Balaam’s MK Movement function in Western Uganda.
He added that the movement has a disciplinary body and if there are any ongoing fights within the Movement leadership, the culprits will be subjected to disciplinary action.
He explained that as a person, he is not aware of the fights.
On the issue of firing Mwenda, Kabanda noted that the MK Movement’s stand on homosexuals is very clear.
He added that even though their mouthpiece supports the vice, they cannot just fire him because he is very instrumental. He pleaded with his colleagues to be accommodative.
Buganda region MK Movement spokesperson who also doubles as the Senior presidential advisor on media Joseph Tamale Mirundi insists that MK Movement was infiltrated by enemies who don’t want Muhoozi to replace his father.
President Museveni once warned that his son is surrounded by people who are looking for their personal gains.
