Recently endorsed Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer, Patrick Oboi Amuriat has assumed his obligatory responsibilities as party chief. With the consultation of the FDC leadership, Amuriat has assembled a formidable campaign team will well spelt out assignments for each individual.
Amb. Wasswa Biriggwa who formerly contested against Amuriat for the party leadership before bowing out in the eleventh hour has been designated the Director General of campaigns.
Hon. Roland Kaginda Mugume has bee named the National Field Coordinator.
And Hon. Albert Okello Oduman has been assigned as the Executive Director- Campaign Bureau.
Amuriat with high expectations of the selected team to help set up various fundraising platforms, also believes that the above instated leaders will set up a notable campaign bureau and campaign structures. The FDC new chief general disclosed that the complete campaign team will be unveiled on Monday October 19th 2020 after the necessary approvals.
“This being my first media briefing since I was elected FDC Presidential candidate, I want to begin by thanking the FDC leaders and supporters for entrusting me with the responsibility to lead them in the 2021 General Elections. I graciously accept this responsibility,” Amuriat said.
He further said that he will advantageously utilise his 26 years public service experience to execute his calling. “The country is aware that I have been a Member of Parliament for 15 years. And during my tenure in Parliament, I served in many capacities including chairing the powerful Accountability committee on Commissions, Authorities and State enterprises (COSASE). I have worked with and under Dr.Kizza Besigye in many elections pre and post elections civil rights campaigns,” Amuriat stated, resurfacing his pure allegiance with the retirement colonel doctor.
“This is not my campaign, it is a campaign of the deprived who want to free themselves, and it is a campaign to dislodge a 34 year old dictatorship. It is a campaign we will collectively execute. The FDC is present in every village in Uganda. It is these FDC leaders and supporters that will help me with this campaign,” he said.
The FDC party president revealed that the party’s preparations for nominations of parliamentary candidates is in high gear. He intimated that the party has made full payments of requisite nomination fees to all eligible candidates who have expressed interest to contest. He instructed all FDC parliamentary candidates to only present themselves for nominations on the first day of the exercise (October 15th).
Amuriat also announced that signatures to support the nominations of the FDC Presidential candidate are being collected in all districts of the country. He therefore instructed all FDC field officers to return signed nomination forms not later than end of this week.
Amuriat also officially declared commencement of a country wide mobilization campaign on Saturday October 17th in which exercise he will interact with FDC leaders, supporters and nominated candidates. The exercise is expected to be concluded with a grand homecoming in Soroti . He however said that the detailed program will be issued in due course, as he intends to also visit cultural, religious, health and education institutions.
