Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago

Kampala City lord mayor Hon. Erias Lukwago has urged Ugandans to leave their comfort zones and join hands in the struggle geared towards ousting this current regime out of power.

Hon. Lukwago while appearing on NBS TV a local television  this morning, said that fighting a dictatorship is not a one-man’s show and so tasked Ugandans to stop being spectators but engage actively in the struggle to end it.

Hon. Lukwago said, “Let me tell you fighting a dictatorship is not a one – man’s show. So even in the struggle of Martin luther King junior the one we admire and look up to, Do you know what they did? His efforts were not in isolation… no. He had the likes of Rosa parks who refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery in an act of defiancy to end the white supremacy. Do you mean he didnt  play any role??

lets take a look at struggle against apathied policy in South Africa for example, was it fought by Nelson Mandela alone ?? people like Desmond Tutu, Walter Sisulu, Steve Biiko, Oliver Tambu and many others and in the  1980’s when president Museveni was fighting, did he fight alone??… even Kabaka Mutebi participated.”

Asked about the People Power Political Pressure group, Hon Lukwago said, “There is a Movement that is not in the NRM context but a movement with in the political spectrum of political science. That Movement which has evolved naturally and it started with the Togikwatako when Ugandans came out and said no across the different political opinion spectrum the Civil society, DP members, JEEMA, FDC and some UPC members came together to fight this and it become the symbol of this struggle.”

Bobiwine in Red and President Museveni in Yellow

Kyadondo East MP Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu alias Bobiwine has conveyed an emotional message to President Museveni after Police blocked his Boxing day Busabala concert, the Grapevine has learnt.

In a Message post shared by this website, Bobiwine expresses his frustration of blocking his concerts by police even when parliament passed a resolution that okayed his concert since the constitution grants them as legislators to also undertake their professions besides the parliamentary work. Bobiwine stated,” Here is my message to him. through these actions, you are revealing who you truly are a brutal, cold and cowardly despot. You think you are hurting me and my dependents by blocking my sources of income, but you should know that the world is watching. yes, I have done a show every 26th December for the last ten years, but if its one of many sacrifices that I have to make for believing in freedom and Justice so be it! I will assure that your intention to break my resolve through harassment and intimidation will certainly fail. I shall not kneel before you. I will not be cowed by your acts of terror. The forces of Evil may be so fearsome, but they will never win in the end. One day, God being our help, you will shall fall like all the other tyrants who came before you.”
Police earlier today in the day used teargas in its attempt to break up supporters and revelers to musician turned politician at his One Love Beach in Busabala. The beach was to host Bobi Wine’s annual Boxing day concert which has been happening there for the last 10-years and revelers had started trickling in as early as 10 am.

We Shall Challenge This Stupidity, Sacked Makerere Dons Threaten Legal Action Against Makerere University

Published

Dr. Stella Nyanzi

Sacked Makerere University lecturers have threaten to take legal action against the University days after they were terminated, The Grapevine has learnt.

32 members of the staff who were affected vowed to challenge the institution in courts of law with many claiming that this was a malice, unjust and irregular for the institution to take such an impactful decision without necessary precautions.

In a joint statement from Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) , Makerere University Administration Staff Association (MASA) and the National Union of Education Institutions (NUEI), the decision to terminate staff is an act of provocation intended to annoy us and threaten them into submission to bad management and clandestine practices that have now become a norm. “We are distressed by such a decision well aware that the list is a tactical mixture of what seem to be genuine cases and violations of basic rights of Staff,” the statement reads in part.

The associations called upon all affected staff to remain calm and use the festive season to prepare for appeals. “We have scheduled an interaction with the 47 affected staff on 2/01/2019 in order to understand the cases and advise accordingly. The interaction will be at the Senior Staff Club from 10am,” the statement continued.

These also want the University tribunal to get involved in the matter. “We want the tribunal to sit and listen to these people. This should not be happening in a fair and progressing institution, this should not be happening to them,” Mr. Bernard Mwavu, MUASA Vice Chairperson said.

Stella Nyanzi’s lawyer, Isaac Ssemakade said his client would definitely challenge this decision. “I urge every other affected member of this list, to take appropriate measures to challenge this stupidity,” he said.

According to Ssemakade, there was no meeting convened to conduct a trial on such allegations.

“Makerere University has maliciously taken this step, it is in contempt of court and court processes and I am sure the High Court will have to deal with this,” Ssemakade said.

However, Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Barnabas Nawangwe insisted that everyone was contacted and given enough time to appear before the board. “Everything which could be done was done, all efforts and options were exhausted,” Nawangwe added.
