High Court Civil Division Judge Lydia Mugambe Ssali has declared that controversial Makerere University research fellow Dr. Stella Nyanzi was illegally fired from her job at Makerere Institute of Social Research.

In her ruling today, the judge noted that Makerere University failed to implement the decisions and orders of its Tribunal which directed that Nyanzi be reinstated to office after being suspended on allegations of abuse of office.

She noted that due to unjustifiable behavior and misfeasance of Makerere University officers, Nyanzi suffered irreparable harm through impairment of personal and vocational growth, disruption of family welfare, violation of her fundamental rights to dignity, equity and nondiscrimination at the work place, stress, humiliation, hurt feelings and loss of reputation and social standing.

Mugambe noted that when Nyanzi was suspended from office, she appealed to the Tribunal which directed that she should be reinstated but the University administration refused.

“It is just and equitable to grant the relief sought to enhance the independence and accountability of the respondent’s governance structure,” the judge noted.

She added that, “Any timelines set in the Tribunal decision that have since lapsed should be treated to take effect from the date of this decision”.

She added that after Makerere administration refused to reinstate Nyanzi, they started claiming that her contract had expired and that it was not renewed as an excuse not to reinstate her to office.

She reasoned that Makerere’s continued contemptuous disregard of the Tribunal’s decision has caused Nyanzi embarrassment, inconvenience and psychological torture for which she is entitled for general damages and she awarded her with shs120m with interests of 10% from the date of the ruling till payment in full.

She explained that the Tribunal was established by Makerere University to give forum to staff members to challenge the decisions of their employers before an impartial body within the institution structure.

Mugambe said that much as the Tribunal is also supposed to protect the employers, rights to appeal is a cardinal tenet for principles of fairness and justice as a way of preventing impunity in the institution.

Nyanzi through her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde ran to court seeking a judicial review of the decision made by Makerere University’s Tribunal which the university administration refused to respect.

‘You Must Pay For Your Sins’ Tycoon Balaam Insists Pastor Mondo’s Shs5Bn Fraud Court Case To Proceed Even If He Meets  President Museveni

    Published

    on

President Yoweri Museveni’s chief mobilizer, also prominent events promoter cum city businessman Balaam Barugahara has revealed that controversial city pastor Franklin Mondo Mugisha’s case in which he, together with others at large, allegedly fleeced over Shs5Bn from unsuspecting Ugandans will proceed even if he meets the president.

Exclusively speaking to the Grapevine on Wednesday January 13th, 2021, Balaam insisted that the recent meeting between Museveni, Makerere Kikoni based House of Prayer Ministries International pastor Aloysius Bugingo, Nansana’s World Ministries church pastor Wilson Bugembe, Evangelical Truth Ministries (ETM)’s Brother Ronnie Makabai and others a few days ago was not about discussing Mondo’s case, because he has to pay for his sins should he be found guilty.

“The meeting was not about Court cases. If you commit your cases, face the law but don’t drag the President into your court matters. It should be the Court to determine Pastor Mondo’s fate,” Balaam, who was replying to questions about Mondo’s fate and word that he want to reach out to president Msueveni to intervene in his case, said.

Mondo is facing a five billion fraud case in the Anti-Corruption together with singer Maggie Kayima, pastor Siraje Ssemanda of Bombo Revival Church and singer Catherine Kusasira.

Prosecution alleges that the said suspects together with others at large fraudulently obtained the said money from fellow religious leaders  and unsuspecting Ugandans after they purported to be operating on behalf  of President Museveni, First Lady Janet  Kataha Museveni and Gen. Salim Saleh, whose names they used to hoodwink their victims that they would secure them government contracts and jobs, until they were busted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

Balaam added that he accepted to mobilize support for President Museveni so that he could win tomorrow’s presidential elections and urged all Christians to mobilize for his support in their respective churches.

He insisted that it’s not illegal for religious leaders to mobilize support for Museveni because he has seen a lot of Catholic priests, especially those from Masaka district, mobilizing support for National Unity platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine and nothing has been done to them.

He however refuted claims that pastors were given bags of money to facilitate their mobilization efforts for president Museveni.

“All those men are very rich, they are driving very powerful vehicles, for how much can they be bought,” Balaam asked.

Ready For Action: Security Takes Over All Kampala City Buildings Rooftops To Police Electoral Process…

    Published

    on

The Uganda Police Force have revealed that state security agencies have taken over and will dominate all the roof tops of arcades and other raised buildings within Kampala Metropolitan policing area during and after the electoral process in a bid to thwart any possible violence.

Superintendent of Police SP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) publicist, disclosed that the development is an extensive security measure towards the country’s peaceful general election.

Onyango revealed that in the recent violent riots that occurred in November 2020, in and around Kampala, police intelligence and CCTV footage analyses have shown that the people who were commanding the rioters were operating from rooftops of arcades, where they would base to give instructions to their people.

He said that; “They used the roof tops as observation posts to monitor movements of security personnel.”

The Police spokesperson also recalled how just a fortnight ago, security personnel who were on a routine patrol were pelted with stones that were being thrown from  the roof top of Nabukera Auto Parts  arcade.

“On 11/1/2021, around 18:30hrs at Kiseka, Kyaggwe Road, security personnel who were on foot patrol were being pelted with stones. On checking they saw a man on the roof top of one of the arcades aiming at them with a bow and arrow. In self-defense they shot him and he was injured, but later died at Mulago Hospital. He was identified as Mukiibi Elijah. The exhibits of bow and arrows were recovered and exhibited at CPS Kampala,” Onyango revealed.

Following the above incidents, security agencies today held a meeting with the business community and arcade owners to devise solutions on how to protect the buildings, business premises, traders, customers and security personnel.

The meeting was held at CPS Kampala Boardroom and was chaired by the Commandant KMP, CP Moses Kafeero. It was also attended by the Commandant Military Police, Col. Keith Katungi and other senior security personnel.

The meeting resolved that security agencies should immediately take over and dominate all the roof tops of arcades and other raised buildings within Kampala Metropolitan Area, and have access control to the roof tops, whereby only personnel in uniform will be allowed the same.

A resolution was also reached upon that there will be regulation of hawkers not to access the arcades, and that for smooth flow of business, both the business community and security pledged to work together for the development of the country.

Sodo Narrates How Gen. M7, Gen. Saleh, Gen. Muhoozi Forced Him Out of Mawogola North MP Race In Favor Of Minister Kutesa’s Daughter…

    Published

    on

Godfrey Aine Kaguta alias Sodo, the younger brother of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has narrated how members of the First  family ‘forced’ him out of the Mawogola North parliamentary race in favour of Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa’s daughter, Shartis Musherure Namatovu.

Speaking to NTV Uganda on Wednesday, Sodo narrated that he was summoned by Museveni, who is his also his father, because he is the heir of late Amos Kaguta, their father, for an emergency meeting.

He stated that the meeting took place on Sunday evening at Entebbe State House and was only attended by First Family members who included: Gen. Museveni, Gen. Kaleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh, tycoon Michael Nuwagira alias Toyota and Shadrack Nowomugisha Nzaire, plus Lt. Gen.  Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Others in the meeting were Minister Kutesa and Sodo’s rival  Musherure, who is Lt. Gen. Muhoozi’s sister-in-law.”

“There were allegations from Kutesa that our supporters were attacking each other. Mzee Museveni decided that I should pull out because if we were fighting then there was nothing we were going to do for people of Mawogola North Constituency,” Sodo said.

He added that due to the respect he has for  Museveni and other First Family members he painfully decided to pull out of the race.

He however  insisted that he will not support Kutesa’s daughter in tomorrow’s  elections, even though he is going to vote for other National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates including Museveni.

Credible Sources revealed to the Grapevine that Museveni promised to give Sodo a governmental assignment although his supporters were not happy and still insist that he (Sodo) had his beak wetted by the Kutesa family before he accepted to pull out.

This website also established that Museveni’s decision to talk Sodo into opting out of the race came after he received intelligence that his brother might be defeated by Kutesa’s daughter.

According to our State House sources, Museveni was briefed that Sodo was assisted by security operatives who allowed foreigners that are not on the national Electoral Commission voters’ register to vote  for him in Mawogola during the NRM primaries in which he purportedly defeated Musherure.

Sources added that Museveni has been scared by the way his family has been divided because of the fight between Sodo and Musherure who are both members of the First Family.

Source said that Museveni told his family members that Sodo’s being fighting with Musherure casts his name in bad light because Ugandans had shifted the fight between the two competitors to depict it as being between Museveni and Kutesa.

Others sources told this website that Museveni has put Musherure in a humiliation trap because he is well aware that many NRM supporters in Mawogola are not willing to vote for her due to the overstay of her father as a Member of Parliament and they are looking for change.

Sources also said that many of Sodo’s supporters are threatening not to vote for Musherure and vowing that they will vote for independent candidate Salim Kiseka, who is also a NRM-leaning candidate.
