President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed big concerns over the growing levels of corruption sighting it as one of the big problems the country is facing.

Mr. Museveni was addressing a gathering that attended the Annual thanksgiving ceremony held last evening at state house Entebbe. “The major problem now is corruption and we are committed to ending it. I can guarantee you we shall defeat corruption. I recently made some announcements but will dwell more on this subject in my New Year message

With First Lady Janet, we hosted guests at State House, Entebbe for the Annual Thanksgiving ceremony, whose theme was picked from Psalms 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in Unity”.

Uganda is beginning to go over the hill after we started from a low base in 1986. We have been trying to get up the hill but with a firm foundation now, the movement uphill is faster and easier.

We now have enough electricity, better roads and general infrastructure. Bishop Joseph Abura from Karamoja testified about how easily he now gets to Kampala.

Ugandans are also working harder. For example we have had a bumper harvest and prices of foodstuffs are coming down. It will help reduce inflation too. Take maize, production has gone up to five million bags from two million bags.

I thank Dr Barry Lenhardt, the preacher, for his good message, especially praying for our country’s prosperous future. I also commend the organisers for giving this function a national character by inviting Ugandans from all parts of the country,” Mr. Museveni said.

In attendance was also the religious leaders from the different sects

Tycoon Kiconco Vows To fight Lusanja residents Till Death After Court Declared Eviction Illegal

Published

on

Juice Manufacturing Tycoon Medard Kiconco has vowed to fight Lusanja locals and make them vomit his land after court declared his evictions illegal.
Kiconco told the media that even though he had lost the case against Lusanja residents in the High Court, he is not going to rest until he regains his land. “I am not happy with today’s Ruling because Court told me to go back to the High Court and file my application to possess my land. I am telling you I bought the land genuinely,” Kiconco said.

He said that he used his saving to buy the land in question and rubbished allegations that he grabbed it.
While Kiconco was lamenting, Lusanja residents were chest thumping and jubilating, they swore never to leave the land now that court has supported their cause.
Samuel Kibuuka, the LC1 told journalist that they are not only going to reposes their land and build back their house which were demolished by Kiconco, they are also going to open criminal charges against him. Kibuuka said that they are going to make sure that Kiconco produces the person behind him who gives him security everytime he is evicting them. He added that many people lost their properties during the eviction, pregnant women now sleep outside in the cold, young girls were raped and other atrocities were committed by Kiconco’s men.
He asked court to heavily punish Kiconco and order him to compensate them for all the properties they lost during the eviction. “That Animal Kiconco should also be imprisoned, the man has a lot of impunity, maybe he has big people behind him who he must produce,” Kibuuka said. Abdullah Kiwanuka, one of the lawyers representing Lusanja residents revealed that since Court declared that the eviction was illegally carried out, they are going to file fresh Court suit against Kiconco to force him to compensate their client. High Court Judge John Keitirima ruled that Nabweru chief Magistrate Rebecca Nasambu errored when he issued an order order on Block 206 plot 671 Kyadondo, which is not in her jurisdiction.
The judge said that he failed to determine whether Nasambu evaluated the properties on the land as a magistrate . He wondered why the magistrate failed to honour the Chief Justice’s orders against Magistrate to first visit the locus before issuing an order. He said that if Nasambu had visited the locus, she would have discovered that the land has a lot of people on it, who were going to be affected by her decision.
The judge also noted that Kiconco did not serve the residents he was going to evict, he wondered how a landlord like Kiconco could fail to serve the area chairperson because he did not know the right one. The judge finally declared the entire process illegal.
