The 2021 general elections presidential journey for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was officially initiated yesterday, as both candidates who are bidding for the part flag jointly crusaded at their Najjanankumbi-based FDC headquarters.
FDC party president, Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi and party chairperson, Amb. Wasswa Birigwa who are both eyeing to hold the blue flag to the presidential elections next year unveiled their plans to party delegates and supporters amidst cheers.
After the gathering, the FDC the aspirants are set to hold their second delegates meeting in Busoga and Bukedi regions respectively.
Though the two candidates in a like manner seemed to agree about ousting incumbent president Museveni, combatting poverty, fighting sectarianism and unemployment among other problems, their methods of execution varyingly differed.
Eloquent Birigwa advocated more for dialogue while Amuriat insinuated that only more than just a dialogue can oust the sitting president with his government.
“When you hand me the party flag, I will engage President Yoweri Museveni for talks to ensure that Uganda experiences a peaceful Power transition because our people yearn for development, not destructions,” Birigwa pledged.
Birigwa also vowed that if given the capacity, he would not by any means tolerate religious leaders whom he accused of exploiting their subjects by siphoning money from them instead of empowering them through supporting their small businesses to boost their income.
Biriggwa, who pledged to promote a mobile health unit system to decongest hospitals and also enable easy access to medical facilities if elected president also added that he will empower each household with financial support worth sh100, 000 for six months on top of feeding school children across the country.
Outspoken Amuriat on the other hand attributed the prevailing regional imbalances and unemployment to the prevailing nepotism, sectarianism, and impunity orchestrated by the current regime.
Amuriat promised that when he’s elevated to presidency, he will ensure restoration of presidential term and age limits to begin with.
Amuriat also assured his listeners that once he is elected into the highest office in the country, he will demolish State House and construct a modern hospital.
Humorously communicating in Luganda, Amuriat endeavoured to convince the delegates to vote for him as the party presidential flag bearer come 2021. The engineer who hails from the east crowed that his people from his region have already endorsed him, and that he’s thus seeking for support from other regions.
