IGG Finally Bites Corrupt Kazinda: Property Worth Over Shs4.Bn That Includes Swanky Home, Luxury Cars Confiscated…

Geoffrey Kazinda being taken to prison, right is his home that has been confiscated by the IGG

The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has finally bitten Geoffrey Kazinda, a government official  accused of corruption, after years of the institution being accused of being a barking dog that never bites.

Kazinda, who is a former Principal Accountant at the Office of the Prime Minister but  was convicted abuse of office and causing loss of government funds in a multibillion scandal, has lost property worth over Shs4Bn, after it was confiscated by the office of the IGG.

It should be noted that since 2012 when he was arrested, Kazinda has been battling corruption cases filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and IGG against him at the Anti-Corruption Court.

However, today, the IGG spokesperson, Ali Munira, revealed that court directed that Kazinda’s two Mercedes Benzes, both valued at Shs500m and his home in Bukoto, Kampala, valued at Shs3.5Bn, be confiscated by the IGG.

The development follows a court ruling,  last year, in which Anti-Corruption Court Judge Margaret Tibulya directed that Kazinda forfeits all his properties to the state, because they were illicitly acquired, using tax payers’ money.

It should be recalled that in November last year, Tibulya found Kazinda guilty of maintaining a standard of living beyond his income after he failed to account for  the vast wealth that was found in his possession at the time of arrest.

The Judge ruled that at the time of his arrest, Kazinda, who is serving a 15 years’ jail term for illicit enrichment, was in control and possession of Shs210m, which he spent on renting apartments from Sheraton hotel for 10 months, owned 4 motor vehicles worth Shs769m, prime plots of land around the city worth Sh3.6Bn, a palatial mansion in Bukoto, among other properties.

However, Kazinda had only declared to the IGG his salary and allowances amounting to Sh83.7M as his known source of income, which prompted court to rule that he could not have accrued all the properties he owned from that salary, hence they were illicitly acquired.

Former Chief Justices Katureebe, Odoki Meet Dollo, Other Supreme Court Justices  Over Justice Kisakye’s Confiscated File…

Justice Kisakye's misunderstanding with the Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo came in light during Kyagulanyi's presidential petition withdrawal against Museveni's reelection

Sources at the Kololo based Supreme Court have revealed  that two former Chief Justices have started mediating between eight Justices of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo and Justice Dr Esther Mayambala Kisakye.

Our sources stated that last month, Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe, the immediate former Chief Justice separately met Chief Justice Dollo at his chambers at the Supreme Court and they held a secret meeting which took almost three hours. Our sources intimated to us that two weeks later, another former Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki also met Justice Dollo, where after the two former Chief Justices met the eight Justices of the Supreme Court including Justice Robby Opio Aweri, Justice Mike Chibitta, Justice Stella Arach Amoko, Justice Faith Mwondah, Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi, Justice Percy Night Tuhaise, Justice Paul Mugamba, and the issue at hand was the misunderstanding between them and fellow Justice Kisakye.

It is not yet established whether the former Chief Justices also met Justice Kisakye. The misunderstanding came in light during the withdrawing of the presidential petition filed by National Unity Platform (NUP)’s former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine challenging president Yoweri Museveni’s victory.

Justice Kisakye accused Justice Dollo of confiscating her file containing her dissenting judgement after refusing him to vet her ruling. Judiciary’s Senior Communications officer Ssalongo Solomon Muyita rubbished Kisakye’s accusation stating that the problem was with her because she refused other justices on the penal from going through her ruling as the practice is, and or requires.

Dombo described the incident as “absurd” and revealed that investigations are on into the matter, warning that culprits will be punished.

Sources in Kyankwanzi intimated to this website that there is a candidate vying for the office of the deputy speaker who bought expensive alcohol and wine, on it branded with her pictures asking them to vote for her.

Dombo also said that all members who are going to attend the meeting will not be allowed to access their mobile phones until evening.
