David Kabanda, the Kasambya county Member of Parliament and also the national MK Movement deputy spokesperson has revealed details of a phone conversation between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among plus other NRM big wigs over MK movement activities.
MK Movement is a political pressure group mobilizing support for the First Son who also doubles as the senior presidential advisor on special operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Their goal is to make sure that he becomes next president to succeed his father when he retires.
Kabanda, who is also a close friend to speaker Among said that when the MK Movement top leadership met president Museveni at State House Entebbe last month, the president promises them support to continue with their countrywide tour because they have been helpful to his government.
“When we were in the meeting, the President himself, picked a phone and called the speaker Among and Capt Mukula informing them that MK Movement was going to tour Eastern Uganda and ordered them make sure that we are supported,” Kabanda said.
He added that to follow up on Museveni’s phonecall, their the MK Movement vice national chairperson in charge of Western Uganda Balaam Bagaruhare is in contact with minister Ogwanga who is the chairperson of the Eastern Uganda organising committee, Mukula and speaker Among so that they put up a landmark gatherings when Gen. Muhoozi sets foot in the region.
The said orders found Mukula on the ground resurrecting NRM grass root leadership and mobilizing people to start campaigning for president Museveni.
Other sources in NRM said that minister Ogwanga was among the NRM legislators at Kyankwanzi Leadership Institute when the party parliamentary caucus convened who were mobilizing fellow legislators to declare president Museveni a sole candidate for the NRM in the coming 2026 presidential elections.
Sources however said that the move was stopped by president Museveni himself who told the NRM Chief whip Hamson Obua, who was briefing him to stop the move explaining that it was diversionary.
However, the president openly told NRM legislators that they are the ones and other party leadership that are responsible for Muhoozi’s rise.
He assured them that he is handling the situation himself with Muhoozi.
He noted that even though Muhoozi’s project is productive to the party, there are selfish people surrounding his son with a goal of achieving personal benefits.
Kabanda said that their principal tour of Eastern Uganda Uganda is expected to kick off in August this year.
Highly placed sources in the MK movement have intimated to theGrapevine that their principal has directed them to adopt a new tactic aimed at increasing their numerical strength in the country especially among prominent political figures.
A source added that Muhoozi has directed the MK project leadership to concentrate more on recruiting disgruntled former Members of Parliament who his father and the NRM party denied jobs ever since they lost their seats in 2021.
Muhoozi is particularly focusing on disgruntled legislators who supported the controversial Age Limit Bill which was tabled by Local Government minister Raphael Magyezi in 2017 and later lost their seats in 2021.
The passing of that bill into law enabled Museveni to seek another presidential term in 2021 because he was beyond 75 years old by the time the 2021 elections were held.
The bill removed the age cap, which was limiting persons above the age of 75 from contesting for the office of the president.
Over 300 members of parliament voted in favour of the bill and 100 of those that supported the bill lost their seats in 2021 general elections.
Many of them have since been lobbying President Museveni and members of the deep state to reward them with jobs in government but are still unsuccessful.
