INSIDE STORY: Top Army Generals Cited In Assassination Attempt On Land Probe Boss Bamugemereire On Friday

There was tension, panic and fear among the family members of Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, the chairperson of the commission of inquiry into land matters and her husband George Bamugemereire, the deputy Inspector General of Government, when assassins attempted to attack them at their home in Buziga, Makindye Division on Friday.

“It’s is true, it happened between 2:00am and 4:00am. Police at my home coked guns and I think that stopped the assailants from continuing with their move,” a shocked Bamugemereire was heard briefing one of her fellow land probe commissioners on phone.  Multiple credible sources among Bamugemereire’s sharp shooters told the Grapevine that the incident happened on Friday when strangers stormed the judge’s gate which prompted dogs to bark and the sensor lights to go on, this alerted Bamugemereire’s security. They quickly coached their guns and took position.

After securing the place, they decided to come out of the gate, “Two men on boda bodas were parked a hundred meters from the main gate, when they saw us, they immediately drove at a very high speed,” one of Bamugemereire’s sharp shooters told the Grapevine. In the morning, Bamugemereire was briefed by security about the incident and she told them to go and open a police case at Bunga police post. Bamugemereire’s attempted attack comes at a time when she is in bad books with top security and government officers.

Among the officials who are in bad books with Bamugemereire include: Depuy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana, lands and housing minister Betty Amongi, her state minister Persis Namuganza, Charles Bakabulindi, Reserve force command Charles Owanyi Otema, Hillary Onek and others.

Justice Bamugemereire was recently quoted warning that her life and the lives of other commissioners was in danger and they were receiving threatening messages.

Sources within Bamugemereire’s security confirmed to this website that there are top UPDF Generals and government officers who are bitter with the land probe boss over her recent investigations into fraudulent grabbing of public land in Kayuga district.

Residents of Ggaliraya and Bbale sub-counties in Kayunga told justice Bamugemereire’s team that there are top government officers and army generals who grabbed Bajjo, Wamale and Kiula forestry reserves.

Residents also gave the commission evidence of phone numbers of officers who have been threatening them not to follow up the case.

Sources further revealed that the commission investigators investigated the telephone numbers given to them as evidence and discovered that the owners are from State House. Kayunga is one of the top districts with rampant land grabbing done by top government officials. Kayunga Woman Member of Parliament who also doubles as the state minister for IT Aidah Nantaba stated that she survived a number of attempts on her life. She said that she suspects some top army and government officials want her dead because she has resisted and fought land grabbing in the area.
