MP Among’s Bid For Deputy Speaker Hangs In Balance As Supreme Court Is Set To Judge On Her Unopposed Victory In Bukedea…

The Bukedea district Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Anita Among’s bid to become the next deputy speaker of parliament hangs in balance as the Supreme Court is set to deliver its decision on her unopposed victory in the recent parliamentary elections.

Five Justices of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, Justice Rubby Opio Oweri Aweri, Justice Stella Arach Amoko, Justice Faith Mwondah and Justice Mike Chibita heard an application seeking for dismissal of Hellen Akol’s appeal challenging Among’s unopposed victory.

Umar Okodel through his lawyers led by Caleb Alaka and Joseph Kyazze insist that the Appellant doesn’t have locus to Appeal against the Court of Appeal decision and asked Court to dismiss it with costs.

Kyazze told Court that what Akol is chasing for is a parliamentary election petition which was stopped in the Court of Appeal.

However, in her defense through her lawyer Judge Byamukama, Akol insists that her application is not an electoral petition stating that what he was seeking in the Supreme Court are consequential orders directing the electoral commission to de-gazette the MP elect Among and declare fresh elections.

He reveals that his client did whatever she was supposed to do including seeking help from the Electoral Commission (EC) after being denied access to be nominated as a Woman member of parliament contestant.

He submitted that the EC informed her that they had no way of helping her because there was a Court order issued by retired Soroti resident Judge Wilson Masalu Musene restraining them from nominating her.

He added that the electoral commission advised her to seek a Court order lifting Musalu’s order and by the time she proceeded to the Court of Appeal, Among the beneficiaries of Musalu’s order was already declared unopposed and she was gazetted.

He told Court that it’s not true that his client’s case is an election petition saying that it was not filed early before electoral petitions which are filed after general elections. He asked Court to disallow the application and be given an opportunity to urge the main Appeal where he is seeking for consequential orders.

Justice Masalu issued a Court Order restraining Akol from being nominated on grounds that she was not in the EC’s register.

Among them is one of the contestants seeking to be given a National Resistance Movement(NRM) ticket to replace Jacob Oulanyah as the deputy Speaker of parliament. Court promised to deliver its ruling on the notice.

NUP Speaks Out On Bobi Wine’s ‘Fraudulent’ Academic Papers…

Bobi Wine (L) with lawyer Male Mabirizi (R)

National Unity Platform Party (NUP) has spoken out on the fraudulent academic papers of their president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

Earlier this week, Law Development Centre grade one magistrate Augustine Alule issued summons directing Kyagulanyi to appear in Court on 7th of October 2021 and answer charges against him.

Controversial city lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi opened up a private criminal prosecution against Kyagulanyi over his academic papers.

In his case, Mabirizi accuses Bobi Wine of fraudulently being admitted to Makerere university on government mature entry in October 2000 when he was not qualified.

The maverick lawyer insisted that by the time Kyagulanyi  was admitted to study a Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama at Makerere University, he was 20 years old yet the requirement for somebody to qualify for mature entry is 25 years and above.

Mabirizi based on the evidence of Alfred Namaoh Masikye the academic registrar Makerere University who gave him certified copies which he tendered in to Court as evidence.

The admission form which Mabirizi filed in Court indicates that Bobi Wine was born on 12th of February 1980 and studied from Kololo Senior Secondary School, Kitante Hill School and was admitted to the University when he was 20 years old.

This is not the first time Mabirizi is challenging Kyagulanyi’s academic papers, in 2020, he filed private criminal prosecution charges against him at Buganda Road Court, Wakiso Chief Magistrate Court and all the files were taken by the Directorate of Public Prosecution but up to now the case has not yet kicked off.

However, when contacted, Geofrey Turyamusiima one of Bobi Wine’s lawyers said that his client has not yet been served with Court summons.

He also boasted that Mabirizi was wasting his time because Bobi Wine was travelling to America.

But on Wednesday evening, Bobi Wine was blocked from entering US and was deported back to Uganda.

Bobi Wine explained that his deportation was related to the new COVID-19 restriction in the US.

Why I Was Blocked From Entering US – Bobi Wine

National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu

National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine has revealed why the United States officials  blocked him from entering their country.

In a post on his social media pages, Bobi wine narrated that he was blocked on Thursday morning because he failed to meet COVID-19 related requirements.

“Yesterday, I left Uganda for the United States of America via Qatar, to attend our Diaspora events including the Uganda Action Day and our Convention, all scheduled this weekend. When I got to Doha in Qatar, it was noted that I was in South Africa less than two weeks back. Apparently, there are still Coronavirus related restrictions for anyone who has been in South Africa (and a host of other countries) from proceeding to the United States until after fourteen days. Unfortunately, we didn’t detect this earlier. Officials at Entebbe were also unaware of this restriction so they did not advise in it,” Bobi narrated.

He added. “It is on that account that I had to cancel my onward travel to USA and return to Uganda this morning.

This notwithstanding, the planned activities this weekend will proceed. There are several NUP leaders who are already in the US including Hon. Zaake Francis, Hon. Kayemba Solo and Chairman Nyanzi. Other NUP leaders are also on their way to take part in the activities. I will also be part of the event virtually, together with a team of leaders who are not able to travel for one reason or another.

I apologise for any inconveniences this may cause to all of you who anticipated my physical presence at the Convention and other events. In the coming weeks, I’ll definitely be able to come for various interactions and events.”

NUP IN PANIC: MPs Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana Summoned Over Masaka Killings, Bobi Wine Worried…

Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya (L) and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana (R)

There is panic in National Unity Platform (NUP) camp after the police Criminal Intelligence Department (CID) issued summons to some of their members.

In two separate letters dated 3rd September, signed by Paul Katto Tumuhimbise on behalf of the CID Director, Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana have been summoned to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6th September 2021.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating some murders that took place in Greater Masaka during the months of July and August 2021. This serves as summons for you to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6th September 2021 at 1000 hours before D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement in respect to the said Investigations,” the letters read in part.

Police in the Greater Masaka have so far recorded 28 deaths in the recent new spate of attacks from machete wielding goons in the area.

The Minister of Information, Communications Technology, and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi told the press on Monday that preliminary findings from ongoing investigations indicated that the criminals behind the attacks were sponsored by politicians to create fear within the population.

On Wednesday, President Yoweri Museveni warned those involved in these killings and branded them as pigs.

Commenting on the summoning of his men, Bobi Wine said, “As predicted, the Museveni regime has actualised their plan of implicating NUP leaders in the ongoing spate of murders in Greater Masaka. When mister Chris Baryomunsi alluded to this last week, it looked like an absolute joke,” he noted.

He added, “But as we now know, anything is possible in Uganda. They will do anything possible and go to any extent to achieve their absurd objectives. In fact, there is no regime whose evil schemes can be as accurately predicted as that in Uganda. As we speak, Hon. Muhammad Segirinya (MP Kawempe North) and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana (MP Makindye West) have been summoned to appear before CID next Monday in relation to the ongoing spate of murders.”
