Nambooze Attacks Kusasira: You Bangled Up A Stolen Song

Published

on

Mukono Municipality Member Of Parliament (MP)Betty Nambooze Bakireke has attacked musician Catherine Kusasira over her recent ‘tears of a woman’ concert at Serena Hotel.

In a letter on her social media page, Nambooze blames Kusasira for failing to represent the tears of the Ugandan women and wasting a great opportunity.

“Tears of women by Kusasira needed a more composed singer who is nonpartisan but somebody who wants to bring out a voice for the women,” Nambooze said.

Nambooze said, “to Catherine Kusasira this must have been her attempt to rebrand…Moving away from funny love songs to venture into the world of using her music for advocacy and maybe sing some English. Am not one of those who were decampaigning Kusasira ‘s concert for we must teach ourselves not to persecute people we don’t agree with politically. We should be different from the junta that stops concerts by opposition Musicians.

In the song video Kusasira places her big bum before a piano and tries playing out lyrics of the song entitled “Tears of a woman”. Advocacy is one of the great things Musicians can ever engage in,it’s not our usual Music, it’s sang for the World and this is what Kusasira tried to put her hands on.”

She adds, “Yet the launch at Serena, fell far below that…in the end the message was lost and a great opportunity was wasted. Tears of women by Kusasira needed a more composed singer who is non partisan but somebody who wants to bring out a voice for the women.

Kusasira was singing about Domestic violence that target women as victims, she was singing against torture BUT maybe because she just bought that song from a composer who wanted money, Kusasira and her Chief guest Mr.Musevèñi forgot about the crusade and sank themselves in the petty beefing and vindictive politics that now characterise our Music and Politics in Uganda.

I am tempted to think that Kùsàsira’s song was drawn through perjury of Oleta Adam’s Tears of Fear a renowned song that calls on the World to free women from the bondage of Chains. So, I waited for Mr. Museveni to address this matter but he didn’t, instead he praised himself for having “ushered in peace which sees many Ugandans happy ” as exemplified by the audience at Kusasira’s show.”

Nambooze adds, “According to the latest Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS) of 2011, 56% of women from age 15 to 29 years have experienced physical violence and 28 percent of women have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. That means that more than half of Ugandan women have been abused at home, at school, or at work.

Sexual violence, especially against girls, is equally widespread with 77.7% of the primary school children and 82% of the secondary school students experiencing sexual abuse while at school.

The attacks differ: 8% of girls are subjected to defilement, 24% are spoken to in a sexual way, 18% receive marriage proposals, and 25% are fondled/touched in a sexual manner while 29% are made to watch sexual scenes (pornography). Of the female students sampled, 67% of reported to have been sexually abused by a male teacher.

Prevalence of child marriage in Uganda is 40 %. Prevalence of child marriages is highest in northern Uganda estimated at 59%, followed by Western region (58%), Eastern region (52%), East-central (52%), West Nile (50%), Central (41%), Southwest (37%), and lowest in Kampala (21%).

The estimated prevalence of FGM/C among girls and women between 15-49 years of age is 1.4%. Up to 134,000 women are affected.”

“Up to 25 percent of adolescents aged 15-19 have begun childbearing and 19% of women aged 15-19 years have given birth. Adolescent childbearing is more common in rural than in urban areas (27% versus 19% respectively).

These are the tears that Government must wipe off women faces of course plus other things that have made the lives of Ugandans miserable. This was also the right moment for Museveni to tell us about how far he has gone with the provision of free sanitary pads for school girls,…he forgot or he doesn’t have anything to tell the women; his government has let them down,” she notes.

Nambooze says that, “The song which Kusasira domesticated runs:

Lyrics

You better love loving and you better behave

You better love loving and you better behave

Woman in Chains

Woman in Chains

Calls her man the Great White Hope

Says she’s fine, she’ll always cope

Woman in Chains

Woman in Chains

Well I feel lying and waiting is a poor man’s deal

And I feel hopelessly weighed down by your eyes of steel

It’s a world gone crazy

Keeps Woman in Chains

Trades her soul as skin and bones

Sells the only thing she owns

Woman in Chains

Woman in Chains

Men of Stone

Men of Stone

Well I feel deep in your heart there are wounds Time can’t heal

And I feel somebody somewhere is trying to breathe

Well you know what I mean

It’s a world gone crazy

Keeps Woman in Chains

It’s under my skin but out of my hands

I’ll tear it apart but I won’t understand

I will not accept the Greatness of Man

It’s a world gone crazy

Keeps Woman in Chains

So Free Her

So Free Her

If You Think There Is No Peace In Uganda Go And Start Farming Somalia – Bebe Cool Stings Mayinja

Published

on

Bebe Cool (L) and Ronald Mayinja (R)

Musician Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool has given a warning to fellow musician cum politician Ronald Mayinja that he will regret joking with the boundless peace and stability brought by the NRM government led by President Museveni.

In an interview with the Grapevine, Bebe Cool reminded Ronald Mayinja to think of where he came from and appreciate the conducive environment that president Museveni has created instead of attacking him in his songs.

While performing at Serena hotel on Friday last week, during Catherine Kusasira’s ‘Tears Of a Woman’ concert, Ronald Mayinja, who is a good and close friend to Kusasira performed his song titled ‘BIZEEMU’ criticizing the president, who was also in the audience and warning him that the insecurity that took him to the bush is now happening again meaning that nothing has changed nothing.

This provoked the president who decided to answer Mayinja at the very concert saying that they fought for peace which is prevailing, freedom which all Ugandans are enjoying and Mayinja was only distorting information in his music.

Bebe Cool says, “I want answer those ignorant musicians who have turned into politicians whenever I get a chance. They are just excited to get votes but they can do nothing. I am telling you this, no one is going to win among those musicians who have run into politics, Ugandans are not fools , most of them have no books and those with books performed poorly.”

Bebe cool added that these politicians are painting a picture that the president decides on everything that happens in the country which is not true.

“These ignorant boys and girls should know that the president has always told parliament to amend the law but they have refused, told the judiciary not to grant bail to murderers but they refused, the president knows very well that those are the people who are killing the security and peace of this country,” Bebe said.

The ‘wasibukawa’ hitmaker also disclosed that during Mayinja’s conversation with President Museveni at Serena, he asked the president to give him a lorry to carry his band items claiming that Bebe Cool and Kusasira always talk for themselves and forget other artistes.

“If you think there is no security in the county , go and do farming in Somalia, but remember the president himself is also providing security there. In your song you are talking about corruption and bad roads but first examine where you came from and remember, the same roads you are using to travel to do your concerts were built by the president. I didn’t want to go into your life but the president has managed to construct hospitals which have helped to fight HIV/AIDs and other killer diseases in Ugandan,” Bebe said.

Mr. Ebangat who says he had known Mozey Radio for 10 years told presiding Judge Jane Francis Abodo that on the fateful date, “Radio poured booze on some people before a one Ms. Pamela Musimire and another person only identified as Mr Ategeka intervened and took him out of the bar.”

Troy in court today

He added that when Radio was taken out of the bar, Wamala grabbed him, pushed him down and took off into hiding in Kyengera- Wakiso District, until 4th/February/ 2018 when he handed himself into police hands upon hearing that Radio was dead.

The second witness was Musimire Pamela (37), a resident of Abaita Ababiri told High court that on 22/January/2019, the deceased (Mowzey Radio) called her and directed her to find him  at Debar. On reaching there, she found Troy, the bar owner, a one Hassan  Muwonge and other people she could not identify.

“Mowzey asked the bar owner to buy for him booze, but the bar owner told him that he had no money. He however ordered the waitress to bring a bottle of whisky, on bringing it, Mowzey didn’t drink it but instead poured it in glasses of other people, and poured the remaining booze on the owner of bar which angered him,” Pamela testified in court.

Pamela told Justice Abodo that the owner of the bar then asked her to take Mowzey out which she did, and it’s at that moment that Troy followed them and pulled Mowzey from Pamela and pushed him down and he took off.

The third witness was Mowzey’s mother Ms. Jane Kasubo who implored court to exercise justice in this case. The fourth witness was a friend to the late Musician, Mr. Hassan Muwonge 28, a resident of Entebbe Church road.

The fourth witness Hassan Muwonge said he is the one who introduced Troy to Pamela while at Debar, a hangout in Entebbe.
