The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, who also doubles as the Nyendo-Mukungwe Member of parliament Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba and the opposition Chief Whip, who also doubles as the Manjiya County legislator are in trouble for defying orders from Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) on the controversial Shs.40m given to legislators.
Appearing on NTV morning show, a furious Bobi Wine revealed that last month, before he traveled abroad on official duties, he directed the party’s leadership in parliament to handle the matter and make sure that their MPs return the said money claiming that it was a bribe.
“We left that matter of the Shs.40m to our party leaders in parliament to handle because the money was not paid on the bank accounts of the MPs. They were called to Anita Among’s house and many of them were told to disguise themselves.
“It was not only NUP legislators who received the Shs40m, it was all MPs. We know that president Museveni is pursuing some other anti-people agenda and so he had to bribe them with money,” Bobi Wine said.
He explained that as a leader, his role is to put people in the straight line that is why when he was told that his legislators were given money, he immediately summoned them and told them to return the money for the good of a common Ugandan who voted for them.
Bobi Wine warned that if the legislators refused to return the said money, the matter is now before their voters to decide whether what they did was the right thing.
“In the end we will be people power because people power is our power. NUP is the political wing of people power and it’s a party that is in firm control of Bobi Wine and other leaders,” he explained.
Sources in NUP revealed that no NUP legislator returned the said money even though Mpuuga and Nambeshe pleaded with them.
Sources said that a section of NUP legislators had even started blackmailing Nambeshe and Mpuuga for forcing them to return the Shs.40m which they alleged was little money.
Sources added that such blackmail forced Nambeshe to fly out of the country so that the storm calms down.
Mpuuga later poured cold water on the matter.
Sources said that legislators were given money as an appreciation to passing the supplementary budget which allocated funds to State House and the Ministry of Defense.
Chris Obore, parliament’s Director for Communication rubbished the allegation that legislators were paid Shs.40m and insisted that all payments in parliament are done through the bank.
