Rivals Express FC And SC Villa To Share Wankulukuku Stadium…

Except a few relevant examples like for instance in Italy, where AC Milan and Internazionale both use the Giuseppe Meazza for home fixtures, and two capital sides in AS Roma and Lazio also hosting from the same Stadio Olimpico venue, it is not a methodical occurrence that two rivals share a home, especially in football.

Unusual to the world of sports and Ugandan football in particular, we could see two traditional rival camps, Express FC and SC Villa unite for the first time under one roof, for the love of the game.

Through a letter addressed to the Mutessa II Stadium manager, SC Villa, the record Uganda Premier League (UPL) winners have requested for the use of Wankulukuku as their home ground for the 2020/21 season.

Villa could therefore join bitter rivals Express at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium, Wankuluku as their official home ground for this upcoming season, should Villa’s request be approved by the Wankuluku Stadium management committee.

The Red Eagles have for years used the Buganda-owned stadium as their home and until they build their own home, they seem so comfortable there and show no sign of moving away.

SC Villa has always moved from one venue to another with Mandela National Stadium, Namboole being the one venue that they have been attached to most, in the last couple of decades. But sadly, the stadium has of late been declared as a COVID-19 treatment center hence leaving Villa without a home ground.

“We therefore write to the management of Mutessa II Stadium applying to be hosted here for the 2020/21 season. We hope that management gives us the permission to access and host all our home games at the stadium,” readpart of the letter signed by Villa’s CEO Shawn Mubiru.

For the football fanatics and neutral supporters of the game, the idea of having both Express and Villa at Wankulukuku is so exciting as is anticipated to add more intensity to the rivalry between the two clubs, but draws back to another sad fact that for all that long existence, and a traditional giant that SC Villa has become in the UPL over the years, it still has no home it calls its own.

Relatively, KCCA FC and Police FC are also two set to host their games at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo, next season.

Wankulukuku, like Lugogo will host two clubs in the next season, should their management approve SC Villa’s move.

Forced Substitute Halid Lwaliwa Earns Uganda Cranes Late Win Against Resilient South Sudan…

The Uganda national soccer team, The Cranes emerged 1-0 victor’s over South Sudan in the first group B game of the TOTAL AFCON 2021 Qualifiers.

The hosts narrowly snatched a slim win against the disciplined visitors who exhibited a very spirited fight at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

South Sudan finally gave up the fight in the last 10 minutes of the game to lose 1-0, thanks to defender Halid Lwaliwa’s header from Faruk Miya’s corner kick in the 85th minute of the game played under closed doors.

Lwaliwa was introduced as a substitute, replacing the injured Ronald Mukiibi Ddugu in the 68th minute after pulling a ham-string.

Miya had earlier hit the post with different attempts, as striker Derrick Paul Nsibambi tried but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Uganda Cranes’ technical team made a couple of changes in the game, and it was veteran forward, Emmanuel Okwi who came off first, as early as the 58th minute to be replaced by Allan Okello before Lwaliwa’s forced change.

Vipers wonderkid, Karim Watambala and Edrisa Lubega were also introduced for Khalid Aucho and Paul Derrick Nsibambi respectively.

Left back Joseph Ochaya got cautioned in the final stages of the game, a decision that automatically rules him out of the return leg on Monday, 16th November 2020.

“I am happy for the victory. We really worked hard to break down their resilience which was anticipated because they are a hard nut to break. We look forward the return leg on Monday,” Head coach Johnathan McKinstry remarked after the game.

Burkina Faso takes on Malawi in the other match day three duel in Ouagadougou.

VIDEO: Mustafa Kizza Makes Immediate Impact At Montreal To Mark Historic Debut.

Kizza unveiled at Montreal Impact.

Ugandan leftback, Mustafa Kizza has hit the ground running at Montreal Impact FC, just days after officially completing his transfer to the Canadian football outfit.

Kizza who was only introduced late in the 70th minute of the game needed less than 15 minutes to get directly involved in a game-winning goal for his new side in the 88th minute, in a 3-2 victory over D.C. United at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
The 20-year-old, was only unveiled on Friday as a Montreal Impact player, and given his preferred no.12 shirt.
Impact boss, Thierry Henry applauded Kizza and his teammates for a job commendably executed.
“Today, we showed character,” the former Arsenal and Barca star joyously said.
Kizza’s immediate involvement has now done so much justice to his previous statistics, which suggested Montreal in the Ugandan international was an addition of goals, assists and international experience to their ranks. In his last season with KCCA, Kizza registered five goals and 12 assists from his defensive position.

It’s no doubt that Kizza’s prowess from set-pieces is legendary, and has huge presence going forward. Kizza is a natural athlete and has outstanding pace -two qualities that will set him apart at Montreal

Kizza has established himself as a modern attacking left-back with great crossing abilities and huge potential. He is good on free-kicks and his height will also help on set pieces.
