Sunday game:

Police vs Maroons, StarTimes stadium

It is going to be a mouthwatering encounter when table leaders Vipers FC host second placed KCCA FC at St Mary’s stadium in StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Vipers are top of the table with a two points advantage over KCCA. The ‘Kasasiro’ boys dropped points at home to Mbarara City while Vipers got a point off stubborn Kirinya Jinja SSS.

“It is going to be a good game and goals are going to be scored but it is not yet a two-horse race, I predict it will be a six horse race this season,” Mike Mutebi told the Grapevine.

A win for Vipers will consolidate their stay on top boasting their confidence ahead of their visit to a revitalized Express FC next week.

Team News:-

Vipers have fitness concerns with Livingstone Mulondo ruled out of this clash after picking a knee injury against Kirinnya-Jinja. Aggrey Madoi resumed training with the rest of the team but this fixture comes too early for him as he lacks match fitness.

Goal keeper Derrick Ochan picked a shoulder injury during the team’s training session, this means that Fabien Mutombora and Bashir Ssekagya will keep their places.

Tom Masiko will be reunited with his former manager, Mike Mutebi on Saturday. Tadeo Lwanga will miss this game, he is still completing his two match suspension but will return for Vipers trip to Wankulukuku.

“We were disappointed with the result on Tuesday in Jinja. I think we deserved more than that but a point picked away isn’t bad. You cannot change your approach. With or without the ball we are going to try to have a strategy for KCCA FC and play in the way we have been playing,” Vipers’ boss Espinoza Martinez said.

Moses Waiswa the Viper’s midfielder said, “We’re playing against one of the top teams in the country and we have to play our way because if we do that we know we can cause problems.”

KCCA welcome back Filbert Obechan and Hassan Musanja but they will miss the services of Hassan Jurua who was red carded in the game against Mbarara City.

Head to Head;

Vipers 0-1 KCCA

Vipers 3-2 KCCA

KCCA 3-1 Vipers

KCCA 1-2 Vipers

Viper 2-1 KCCA

KCCA 0-0 Vipers

Vipers 2-2 KCCA

Meanwhile Villa will be seeking their first win in the league this season against a well organised Mbarara City that picked a point at the Start Times stadium on Wednesday against KCCA.

CAF Champions League: Vipers Miss Out On Two Billion Dime

Published

on

VIPERS were eliminated from the CAF Champions League after losing to CS Constantine of Algeria by 2-0.

Vipers needed two goals to make it to the group stages but they failed to make it and missed out on CAF’s money prize of $550,000 (Shs 2 billion).

“We did not do enough to deserve a win at home. The Defenders and strikers were so disappointing,” Martinez Espinoza the Vipers coach said.

Espinoza kept on tinkering with his squad from defense to striking line but this time he did not go away with it.  This may worry the Mexican who may soon be sacked.

Vipers failed to make history like KCCA did last year as they became the first Uganda club to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages.

The first half ended goalless but the CS Contatine silenced the hosts in the 61th minute when they got a free kick on the edge of the area and scored their first. The got the second in five minutes.

Focus will now be switched to the local league as Vipers seek their consecutive second tittle in history.

Manchester United Sack Manager Jose Mourinho

Published

on

Manchester United have sacked Jose Mourinho after a disastrous first half to the Premier League season.
Mourinho was pictured arriving at the training ground at 9am on Tuesday – before being called to a face-to-face meeting with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward where he was told he was fired.
United then officially confirmed the news at 9:46am, and Mourinho is set to receive a £22.5m pay-off with the club still in the Champions League.
The Portuguese, 55, guided United to League Cup and Europa League titles.
But they are sixth in the Premier League, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool, who beat them 3-1 on Sunday.
“A caretaker-manager will be appointed until the end of the season while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager,” United said in a statement.
“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.”
The caretaker-manager to replace Mourinho, who took over from Louis van Gaal in May 2016, will not be assistant coach Michael Carrick or academy boss Nicky Butt.
The candidate will be drawn from outside the club, but will not be former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

United’s haul of 26 points after their first 17 Premier League games, is their worst tally in the top flight at this stage since 1990-91.
They are 11 points off the top four and closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table.
Mourinho’s sacking comes after a fall-out with £89m record signing Paul Pogba, who was an unused substitute for the defeat at Anfield on Sunday.
Following a 1-1 draw with Wolves, midfielder Pogba said he wanted United to be able to “attack, attack, attack” at home, which led Mourinho to say the France midfielder would no longer be the club’s “second captain”.
After Mourinho, who signed a contract extension in January, was sacked Pogba tweeted: “Caption this,” with a knowing expression on his face, before deleting the social media post.
In October, there were reports that Mourinho might be sacked prior to the home game against Newcastle, but after the team trailed 2-0, they turned it around to win 3-2 and seemingly buy the former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss more time.
Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes attempted to calm the storm earlier in December by taking the extraordinary step of issuing a statement to say Mourinho was “very happy” and “fully committed” to the club.
But despite reaching the Champions League last 16, where United will play Paris St-Germain, they have won just one of their past six games in the Premier League.
Mourinho’s dismissal continues his run of never completing four consecutive seasons in charge of a club.
Only once has he made it into a fourth campaign, but he left Chelsea on 20 September 2007 during his first spell at Stamford Bridge.
