Uganda Premier League (UPL) Champions Vipers FC have unveiled Mexican coach, Javier Martniez Espinoza. Martinez to replaces Miguel Da Costa who was sacked last month.

Martinez was unveiled this morning at Kitende the home of Vipers.  The club President Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa stressed that Espinoza comes with experience on the team. “Changing coaches is expensive but we had to pay the Price to get someone who can transform our players into professionals so that in future we can operate like the likes of TP Mazembe,” Mulindwa said.

Mulindwa told the media that 11 coaches applied for the job with only two from Uganda.  Mulindwa said that they chose Martinez as the right person to handle the team.

Vipers also explained that they missed the FUFA Super 8 tournament because they didn’t have the coach to assess the players during the tournament. “I will need three weeks to study the players because I have seven years of experience in coaching but mostly Mexican football,” Martinez told the media.

Martinez is the third foreign coach to  take charge of Vipers, the first one was Ambrose Chikuma the Nigerian who was replaced by Miguel Da Costa from Portugal.

Semata Breaks Golola’s Record To Become First Uganda To Stop Him

Published

on

Umar Semata, one of the technically gifted kick boxing fighters in Uganda, proved his doubter’s wrong when he beat Moses Golola at Freedom City in the early hours of Sunday morning, and was massively attended.

Golola was beaten in the fifth round. Semata showed that he is technical enough to stop the motormouthed Golola, who spent 90 days in Kabale preparing for his fight.

The Muay Thai fighter who had most of his fights outside the country ended Golola’s record and became the first Ugandan to beat him. Golola has dominated kick boxing with 36 wins out of the 41.

Golola had previously lost to Mate Zamboki at Kyadondo, Andras Nagy, in 2011 and Richard Abraham in 2014 at Speke Hotel in Munyonyo.

Semata had his 45th career victory from 78 fights.

How Golola was beaten:

Golola found his size in Semata, and many who enjoyed the fight at Freedom City’s state of the art Auditorium or live on TV will agree with me when I say that Semata was a class apart when it came to technical aspects of the fight compared to Golola.

Golola threw more heavy punches but Semata was using both kicks and punches which helped him score more points.

The kick boxing game is growing

Before the main fight, there were 12 under card fights, Paul Ababa beat Joshua Lumunya in the first fight of the night.

Allan Claude edged James Christon, Mududa Khalifan was beaten by Ivan Khoreta, Maxwell James was too much for Joel Semanda, Rebecca Among also managed to beat Brenda Masendi in an all-Women’s affair.
